The Creation of Lake Drummond

Part of the "Virginiaisms" series, this piece illustrates the "firebird" legend of how Lake Drummond was formed, which was passed down through the millenia by generations of Native Americans. The swamp containing Lake Drummond actually catches fire every couple years and covers the Hampton Roads area in a dense, earthy smoke because its thick peat foundation smolders so easily.
